Local Expedited Academic Program Reviews

allows for expedited, exceptional program reviews tailored to particular financial circumstances. At the Sept. 12 Board of Regents meeting, UAF, UAA and UAS were asked to each move forward with expedited reviews to potentially find cost savings. As such information is publicly available this page will link to those local university-level review resources.

UAA, UAF and UAS Expedited program reviews - Update for Academics and Student Affairs Committee

Rather than predetermining a set of programs for review on the institutional level, UAA wants all programs to participate. The chancellor and Provost John Stalvey discussed this with different groups on campus, and believe it is the best way forward for a fair and equitable process. The completed reviews were due to the deans on Jan. 31, 2020, just one day earlier than for the regular cyclical process.

UAF will be conducting expedited program reviews during the 2019-2020 academic year. They finalized the  and the  that will be reviewed based on low enrollment and high cost. These documents and more are posted on Provost Prakash's  website. Expedited review will focus on department and program enrollments, cost effectiveness, academic quality and centrality to Committees include representatives recommended by Faculty Senate, ASUAF and Staff Council. The website includes the name of the review committee members. 

  

 

At UAS, faculty in a number of programs have been asked to answer specific questions related to enhancing programs, consolidating programs, and reducing program costs. Faculty in fourteen programs have been provided specific questions to focus on in assessing program alignment with UAS’ mission. Each program has been provided a deadline for submitting the review prior to the end of the calendar year. The UAS Strategic Planning and Budget Committee and Faculty Senate will review results of the expedited reviews and make recommendations to the Executive Cabinet by March 2020. The process will conclude by April 2020.
